Fine art and and photography reflecting life in the far North.

Y is for Yellowknife (ABC Project)
Today was a cold morning in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (though not as cold as yesterday!). Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories and has a population of approximately 20,000 people. The name comes from the color of the copper tools the T’atsaot’ine Dene traded with white explorers. Around 1934 gold was found in the area and since then the city has built an economy around diamond mines. The Dene word for the city is Somba K’e which means “where the money is”.
